About the Department

The Department of Chemistry is one of the most prestigious departments of the college. It caters
to a large number of students of other science disciplines as well. The CBCS syllabus exposes
students to diverse fields such as Green Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Analytical
Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry etc. With specialized papers under
Skill Enhancement Course and Discipline Specific Elective students get introduced to
Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pesticide Chemistry, Molecular Modeling & Drug Design, Fuel
Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Cosmetics & Perfumes and others, which can help them decide
their field of interest in the future. The chemistry and instrumentation labs allow the students to
have hands-on practical training. The Chemistry department organizes seminars and workshops
on the latest topics of research. The dedicated faculty of the department believes in interactive
relationships with the students.

The department maintains a departmental library which is well-equipped with books from all
disciplines of Chemistry catering to the requirements of students. The Labs have the latest model
of spectrophotometer, colorimeter, pH meters and Flame photometer that help students carry out
experiments of the syllabus and those beyond curriculum as well. The department has a well-
stocked store for both apparatus and chemicals. The laboratories and stores are maintained by a
team of dedicated support staff. Keeping in view the environmental concerns of chemicals, some
of the experiments in the chemistry laboratory are modified and principle of 3Rs – Reduce,
Reuse and Recycle is being adopted for experiments wherever possible.
The Chemistry Department endeavours to supplement classroom teaching
with invited lectures, workshops, add-on courses, seminars by eminent speakers. Many
renowned academicians and scientists have visited the Department from time to time to interact
with students. Apart from teaching, a great impetus is given to research activities in the
department where faculty members mentor students for various research based projects for
various inter and intra-college competitions. The Chemistry department organizes various
academic events/competitions and fun activities across the year for the holistic development of
students. These are interspersed with institutional and educational visits to nearby industries and
laboratories - the recent ones include those  Yakult,Sonipat,Sugar Industries Central Forensic
Science Laboratory and  Patanjali Herbal Gardens (Haridwar).
